What comes to mind first when you think of Greek food? For example, a portion of delicious moussaka that they prepare comes to mind. Today we thought we'd adapt their recipe and suggest you try it too. We omitted the eggplant, but replaced it with round potatoes.

  • 1000 g Frescoverde potatoes cut into rounds
  • 1kg minced beef-pork
  • 6-7 medium champignon mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 medium onions
  • 200ml dry red wine
  • 300g canned tomatoes
  • 100g tomato paste
  • 80g flour
  • 100g butter
  • 1 liter of milk
  • 400g crushed tomatoes
  • Salt, pepper, nutmeg

    First, we start by preparing the meat filling, placing it alongside the diced onion in a hot pan with a small cube of butter. We season the mixture with salt, pepper, and oregano, and cook it until browned.

    Finally, when the meat is browned, we add the mushrooms and wine, cooking until the alcohol has completely evaporated.

    We add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and water, then cover with a lid and cook until the sauce reduces completely.

    While we wait for the meat to cook, we move on to the second step and prepare the sauces.

    Bechamel sauce: In a small saucepan, melt the butter, then add the flour once the butter has fully melted.

    We cook the flour, then add the milk and nutmeg, stirring until the sauce thickens. We remove it from the heat and let it cool.

    Tomato sauce: In a small saucepan, heat a teaspoon of olive oil and sauté 2 cloves of garlic.

    We add the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, and freshly chopped basil. Let it cook for 10 minutes, then set the sauce aside.

    Finally, we can start assembling. In a baking tray, we layer bechamel sauce, tomato sauce, and sliced potatoes, then repeat the process.

    We bake it in a preheated oven at 180°C with top and bottom ventilation for 30 minutes. Even if it takes a bit longer, the taste is absolutely excellent!
